UNR Grizzlies Rugby Club is set to host their Burundian counterparts of the National University of Burundi, Rumuli in a friendly match on August 14 at Huye stadium.
The National University of Rwanda side that finished second in the league has been training for the last couple of days in preparation for the friendly.
Grizzlies coach Alphonse Umugire said the game has been organized as a way of keeping the players, who have taken long without playing competitively in good shape.
"Since the league ended, the players have not played any competitive match; they have only been training amongst themselves, which is not enough.
"I want them to play a series of friendly matches so that they don’t get out of shape,” said Umugire.
Meanwhile, the national women rugby team, the Blackbacks is still awaits funding from the Confederation of African Rugby (CAR) for their preparations for next month’s Women 7s tournament in Kampala, Uganda.
According to the team head coach Jean de la Paix Hategekimana, they expect $1000 from the continental body before starting their preparations for the two-day event that will have teams from Kenya, Tanzania, Burundi and hosts Uganda.
