It was a wise for the other East African countries to reject South Sudan’s request to join the EAC.
Although South Sudan is booming in trade and a target for markets in the Great Lakes region, its short term interests could be overrun by the long term interests of the EAC as a whole.
South Sudan should therefore be patient, and wait until it becomes a sovereign state before thinking of joining the EAC.
This will save it from future trouble and will help it to harmoniously work with the rest of the EAC countries.
