Former APR coach Rene Feller has commended the military side for beating all odds to win their tenth league title.Feller told Times Sport through an e-mail yesterday that, "Finally the team who tried to play good football won the championship.”

"Though APR lost some vital points during the season, they have tried to play good and entertaining football.

"Congratulations to them for winning the league and  getting the chance to participate again in the African Champions League. It’s really good to play at such an international level,” said Feller.

The Dutch coach joined APR on a one-year contract in 2008, just five months after being appointed national coach of Eritrea.

Feller’s tenure with Eritrea lasted just three months, after the Red Sea Boys withdrew from 2010 World Cup qualification. Feller has also previously worked in Kuwait.

The 67-year old coach resigned as head coach of APR citing health problems in April this year. During his reign with the military side, he won the MTN Peace Cup.

He was then replaced by his assistant Erik Paske, who went on to win the league title in his first season .

APR sealed their tenth   title in  dramatic fashion on the final day of the season.

Paske’s guns went into the game two points adrift of table leaders Atraco but at the end of the day, their 2-0 win over Mukura proved enough with Atraco  failing to find the net against a well-organised Marines side.

Atraco’s draw coupled with APR’s victory meant that the two sides finished level on points (51 points) but Erik Paske’s side finished top on goal difference (40 against Atraco’s 36).
