Here comes the harvest season! Students of the National University of Rwanda (NUR) were on Saturday, treated to spectacular celebrations to mark the beginning of the harvest season.
The event, normally celebrated with the ritual of sharing the first harvest under the Rwandan culture, was entertained by the Varsity’s traditional ballet dance group (Indangamuco).
The dance troupe treated the crowd to an amazing performance that combined different dance styles from all parts of the country.
Dancers radiated energy, as they paced through their perfectly rehearsed dance patterns. Male dancers, commonly known as (Intore), demonstrated their vigorous dance style, as they jumped to the heights, brandishing their "spears” in the air, whilst girls danced leisurely to the slow rhythm, rocking their bodies to all angles.
Directing to its meaning, the event was to celebrate the commencement of the harvest season, and the function was feted significantly, as girls and boys clad in traditional dresses served maize to the enthusiastic crowd.
