RDF soldiers of the 408 Brigade have constructed a total of 197 Km feeder roads network and 80 houses for needy people in the districts of Gicumbi, Rulindo, Burera and Gakenke as part of their humanitarian activities.
The RDF 408 Brigade Commander Brig. General Eric Murokore, told The New Times that in addition the soldiers have constructed 32 bridges in Burera District and two in Gicumbi District using local materials.
The soldiers have also provided clean water to residents of Rulindo District.
"Close to 3,000 residents of Burera and Gakenke districts participated in the voluntary counseling and testing (VCT) of HIV/AIDS and over 400 mosquito nets were distributed to mothers in Burera District,” Murokore revealed.
Residents who talked to this reporter hailed RDF for the humanitarian outreach.
"Residents in this place have been fetching water from swamps located at a distance of over 10 Km,” Jean d’ Arc Uwase, a resident of Karambo cell in Ngoma Sector in Rulindo said.
At Rukore Primary School in Tumba Sector of Rulindo District, the soldiers provided piped clean water to over 300 residents.
The Mayor Justus Kangwaje noted that the humanitarian activities complement the liberation struggle.
"It is intended to liberate Rwandans from poverty and diseases, to steer the country towards economic development,” said Kangwaje.
Other activities currently being carried out by the uniformed personnel in collaboration with residents include clearing of plots and brick making for the construction of houses for needy people in the three districts.
