Convention pools Rwf64m for One Dollar Campaign

Senate President Vincent Biruta has called on religious leaders to continue with the liberation struggle despite tremendous successes the government has achieved 15-years after the war.

He was yesterday officiating at the closure of a month of Liberation that also marked the end of a four-day international convention of the Anglican Church which started last Thursday.

Biruta said that the struggle to liberate the country from the bondage of poverty, illiteracy, corruption and Genocide ideology still remained and were a hindrance to achieving the countries goals.

"We recognize the contributions of religions and civil society’s in the development of the country, but there is still a lot to liberate to achieve our vision,” he said

"The road to development is therefore still wide and we strongly believe that with your commitment this will be achieved.”

Meanwhile Rwf64.5 million was collected as part of the ongoing One dollar campaign to support the orphans of the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi.

Rwf54.5 million was collected from different religious denominations which include the Anglican, Catholic, Islam and Seventh Day Adventists among others. Rwf10 million was collected from the civil society which includes schools, cells and sectors across the country.
