MCA Tricky, one of the best stand-up comics in Kenya, arrived in Kigali on Friday evening as he awaits to perform at the second edition of Iwacu Comedy show slated for Sunday, November 6 at Kigali Conference and Exhibition Village (former Camp Kigali).
The comedy show is organised and hosted by two Rwandan comedians Seka Nshizirungu alias ‘Seth’ and Samson Mucyo, also known on stage as Samu, two household names in the Rwandan comedy industry under their renowned crew ‘Zuby Comedy.’
The duo took the first edition of Iwacu Comedy in Kenya in 2021 and that was when they met Tricky and invited him to perform at their show. The Kenyan comedian’s performance at the time impressed the boys who decided to have him again in Kigali as the headliner of the show alongside Burundian comedian Kanyamukwego.
"I first met Zuby comedy boys in Kenya where they hosted their first edition of such an event. Since then, we kept in touch, and I could not say no when they invited me to perform in Kigali because I love what they do. Now here I am,” Tricky told The New Times after landing in Kigali.
"I am excited to perform in Kigali and, with everyone on the lineup, people can only expect the best comedy show from us this Sunday,” he added.
Besides show hosts Zuby Comedy and top headliner Tricky, a number of local comedians are expected to perform at Sunday’s comedy show which features the likes of Fally Merci, Rusine, Clapton Kibonge, actor Bamenya who will be performing sketches.
Seth told The New Times that he and his colleague Samu are building a comedy gig that will be hosting big bigger names in the industry in Rwanda and overseas and they push to make it grow from local to an international show.
"This time round we are hosting the likes of Tricky, all the way from Kenya, and local famous comedians like Rusine among others because we know where we want this gig to be going forward. People can’t afford to miss this one because we have a big package that can spark joy and entertainment at the same time,” he said.
Entrance at the show is Rwf 5,000 for regulars, Rwf10,000 and Rwf20,000 for VIPs and VVIPs respectively while a table of 10 goes for Rwf200,000. Tickets are on sale via the Zuby Comedy’s MoMo code *182*8*1*111552# and follow prompts.
