KARONGI —There is reason for teachers in Karongi to smile as the district has finalised plans to pay them their salary arrears.
The New Times reported on Friday that teachers in Karongi District had threatened to down their tools  and were considering suing the district because of unpaid wages for the last seven months.

Speaking to The New Times yesterday, the Mayor Bernard Kayumba said the teachers will soon be paid their July salaries and the outstanding salary arrears at ago. There are 127 teachers who were complaining of unpaid wages in 29 schools across the district.

The Mayor clarified that the salary delays were not due to financial constraints as earlier reported, but it was caused by constrains emanating from  processing of the pay. He reiterated that the funds meant for salary had already been sent by the government.
