FROM Amavubi’s pre-selected team for the August 12 International friendly against Tanzania’s Taifa Stars, it is clear that Ferwafa has still gotten it all wrong.
The local football governing body recently named a provisional 27-man team for the friendly, which is part of Amavubi’s preparation for the September 5 2010 World/Africa Nations Cup qualifier against Egypt.
Ferwafa got it right by pushing for early preparations ahead of the crunch tie but seems to have lost track from the summoned team.
A close look at the team shows that some players have chosen to hide their niggling injuries just to be in the final squad and pocket those dollars that come with playing for Amavubi Stars.
A valid example is APR’s Ismail Nshutinamagara. The defender has barely played competitive football since his switch from Atraco at the beginning of the 2008/9 season because of a nagging knee injury.
Players who are either fatigued or short on form but still squeezed into the team include Elias Ntaganda, Yussuf Ndayishimiye, Patrick Rutayisire, Emery Mvuyekure, Donatien Tuyizere, Jean Bosco Uwacu, Arafat Serugendo, Jean Pierre Hakiri, Jamal Mwiseneza, Abdul Uwimana, Pekeyake Tuyisenge, Arafat Serugendo, Jimmy Gatete, Saidi Abed Makasi and Jean Pierre Hakiri.
It is still not clear why Andre Lomami and Amani Uwiringiyimana, who have played an integral part for Atraco this year (including the 2009 Cecafa/Kagame Cup triumph), failed to make the provisional squad.
Ferwafa’s Chief Executive Officer Jules Kalisa claims that the body was advised by Amavubi head coach Branko Tucak to stick to the provisional squad that was named ahead of Rwanda’s 3-0 mauling against African champions Egypt back in June.
Ferwafa needs to revise the team if Rwanda is to stand a chance of qualifying for the 2010 Africa Nations Cup in Angola.
