GASABO - The former Minister in the President’s Office in Charge of Science and Technology, Prof. Romain Murenzi, has landed a teaching job at Maryland University as a visiting Professor.Murenzi was granted a sabbatical leave by President Paul Kagame in a recent cabinet reshuffle.

The ministry was later on split into two, with scientific research portfolio going to the Ministry of Education.

At the handover ceremony that took place at Urugwiro Village last evening, the new MINEDUC minister Dr. Charles Muligande expressed appreciation for the work done so far in the field of scientific research and ICT under Murenzi’s tenure.

"It is obvious that a lot of things have been achieved, and we will do our best to pursue all your efforts and probably add other initiatives,” said Muligande.

He further called on Prof. Murenzi’s continued support for the country’s advancement in scientific research, science and technology, which he said are the main pillars for achieving Rwanda’s Vision 2020.

Murenzi who has worked as a Cabinet Minister since 2001, was also at one time Minister of Education before being named as ICT minister.

In the US he will also work with the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS).
