For the first time, Nyaruguru District in partnership with Rwanda Cycling Federation, has organized a cycling competition dubbed 'Kibeho Race' scheduled for November 12.
The race is aimed at promoting local tourism and discovery of young cycling talent.
The newly competition is set to be held annually.
This is the second time after ‘Gisaka Race’ that took place in September, a district collaborates with Ferwacy to invent a new tournament.
As planned, men will cover a distance of 97 kilometers, juniors and women will cover 85 kilometers while amateurs will do 30 kilometers.
Kibeho usually has many visitors who go there for the apparitions and feasts of the Ascension of the Virgin Mary.
The Nyaruguru Vise-Mayor in charge of social affairs, Janvier Gashema, said that the competition was organized in order to entertain people and promote the region and to discover the talents of young people.
He said: "Nyaruguru District is known for religious tourism and developed tea farming. Therefore, we will promote these activities and use the newly constructed roads of Nyaruguru District."
Gashema said that the main reason for the race is to highlight the beauty of Nyaruguru, promote investment and attract visitors to the area.
"We want Nyaruguru to continue to be visited even more, because visitors need different services including food, drinks and hotels and all these bring revenues to be people.”
"We want to request that the Tour du Monde that will be held in our country in 2025 can pass through Nyaruguru in order to continue to develop our region, develop Kibeho and continue to promote it and continue entertaining people through sports."
