Local authorities said an unidentified woman who is believed to be the mother of the three weeks baby boy was seen by children burying the baby in the bush last Wednesday afternoon.
"We saw a brown looking woman bending down and we were curious to know what was going on,” said one of the children who witnessed the burial. "On reaching there we found a screaming baby.”
The children who were collecting firewood then rushed to the local authorities to report their finding.
According to the Executive Secretary of Nyamyumba Sector, Esperance Dukundimana, the baby was found covered with soil and bricks.
After the rescue, the baby was taken to Nyundo Catholic orphanage.
"The baby is healthy, I have seen him, but we are yet to find this heartless woman,” she added
"This habit of dumping babies in the bush is not common here, what I can assure you, the mother will be prosecuted whenever we get her,” Dukundimana added.
