Zindiro accident: Nine discharged from hospital

Nine of the people who were injured in the road accident that took place in Zindiro, Bumbogo sector in Kigali on Wednesday night have been discharged from the hospitals, The New Times has learned.

The accident occurred around 7PM along the Kimironko-Zindiro road when a speeding Fuso truck rammed into a Toyota Carina car and a barbershop. One person, a 43-year-old woman, died instantly, while about 15 people were injured.

Many of the injured people were rushed to Rwanda Military Hospital in Kanombe and Kibagabaga Hospital.

Speaking to The New Times on Thursday, January 16, Lt Col Dr Ernest Munyemana, the Director General of Kibagabaga Hospital, said the hospital received 10 injured individuals. Out of these, nine were discharged, while one has been referred to the University Teaching Hospital of Kigali (CHUK).

"One female with severe low back pain and head injuries was referred to CHUK. The remaining nine got better and were then discharged,” he noted.

The first patients arrived at Kibagabaga Hospital at 8:45pm on January 15, and they started to be discharged around midnight.

An official from Rwanda Military Hospital, told The New Times that the hospital received one case and is currently in stable condition.

Traffic Police Spokesperson SP Emmanuel Kayigi, said the accident damaged properties including the building where the barbershop is located, furniture and two cars.

He said that an investigation has started to determine the exact cause of the accident, as he urged drivers to be careful and avoid over speeding.
