Rwanda’s sole brewers Bralirwa have sank over Frw 5millions in this year’s Mitzig Open.

The sponsorship package was confirmed yesterday by Bralirwa’s commercial director Rene Kruijt during a brief function with Kigali Golf Club convened at Mille Colline.

In his remarks, Kruijt highlighted that the sponsorship was in part to mark the brand’s twenty years of success.

"Mitzig is our premier brand and we are proud to celebrate its twenty years of success and its new re-launched out-look.

We are also proud to be associated with Golf.

Apart from last year when we missed out on sponsoring a tournament, we have always done so and we promise to continue supporting the sport,” Kruijt said.

On top of Kruijt’s remarks, the KGC president Ezra Bunyenyezi hailed Bralirwa for the support.

"This year’s Mitzig Open is a prestigious tournament and we are proud to be associated with the company (Bralirwa) and their brand.

It is a well sponsored event and there is no doubt that it will be colorful,” Bunyenyezi noted.

Even though the event was not held last year, KGC and Bralirwa still believe that the event is annual and will go on for the next twenty years or so.

With the exception of 2005, previous Bralirwa events have always been dubbed Heineken or Bralirwa in general.

Over 65 golfers are expected to take part in the two-day event whose tee-off is set for Saturday morning.

"We are expecting over 65 golfers to turn up for the 36-hole tournament.

We have also organized a one-day junior’s event on the side and we expect over 40 in number,” the club’s captain Rajan Tiwari said.

Meanwhile the national golfers’ team jets in tonight from Namibia where it has been participating in the All Africa Challenge Cup.

The four-man team finished 10th in the competition that was out rightly dominated and won by South Africa.

Kenya emerged top in the region (East Africa) after finishing 5th while Uganda came second in 9th spot.
The two-day event attracted 13 countries.
