In an interview with The New Times, Sylvere Nahayo, the Mayor of Kamonyi District, identified the suspect as Jean Baptiste Nkurikiyingoma.
The suspect is said to have had a personal conflict with Jean Marie Vianney Muganza, the owner of the targeted house. The dispute was reportedly fuelled by allegations that Muganza was having an affair with Nkurikiyingoma’s wife.
No one was injured in the attack, as the grenade was thrown when everyone was inside the house. However, the explosion damaged the door of the house.
The mayor confirmed that Nkurikiyingoma is a retired soldier, but it is unclear how he obtained the grenade.
