Amagaju chairman Jean Paul Nshimiyumuremyi has vowed to build a solid team good enough to compete against Rwanda’s top clubs.
Burundian forward Edouard Ndayishimiye scored the lone strike as Amagaju beat APR FC 1-0 in the final first round match of the Rwanda Premier League match held at Huye Stadium on Sunday, January 12.
It was Amagaju’s first ever league win against the army side since the club was established in 1935.
The win moved the Nyamagabe-based side to eighth place on the Rwanda Premier League table with 21 points.
The club is into its 90th year of existence and, after beating APR, Nshimiyumuremyi said the main focus remains primarily on building a strong team, competitive enough to consistently play topflight football.

"Our target is to produce a good, tough team which can play better football in Rwanda. No one imagined that we could beat APR but we did it and you can see how we responded whole game. We are more interested in football development at this club,” Nshimiyimuremyi said.
"I don’t care where we stand now, I just care about the future of the club. I don’t care whether beating APR helped other clubs in any way, we just managed to get three important points against such a big club,” he added
Arguably the oldest club in Rwandan football, Amagaju FC was formed in 1935 by Steward (Umutware) Rutaremara. The club plays its home games at Nyagisenyi Stadium. Their home shirt colors are yellow and blue.
