Newly appointed SC Kiyovu coaching staff, led by head coach Marcel Lomami, have been tasked to rescue the club from relegation to second division.

Kiyovu finished the first round of Rwanda Premier League sitting bottom of the table standings with 12 points.

The club has since undergone a managerial change with Lomami taking over from Burundian Joslin Bipfubusa who was shown an exit door following the club’s dismal performance in the first round.

Lomami will be assisted by Malick Wade while former striker Hubert ‘Bébé’ Nshizirungu was appointed technical director.

"The main task for the new coach is to take back the club to its glory days. But, for now, we need to remain in topflight division,” said SC Kiyovu president David Nkurunziza.

Kiyovu are in a situation where staying in the top tier division would suffice.

In 2017, the Mumena-based side suffered relegation for the first time in their 53-year history but miraculously returned to the topflight division without kicking a ball in the second division.

This was after Isonga FC, a team which had been promoted to the topflight league, rejected the opportunity.
