President Paul Kagame yesterday split the Ministry of Science, Technology and ICT, with some attributions going to the Ministry of Education while others remained in the Office of the President.

The development follows the approval of the sabbatical leave requested by Minister Prof Romain Murenzi who has been at the helm of the ministry.

The approval of Murenzi’s leave was announced Sunday as the President made a mini-reshuffle that saw some ministers moved to different ministries while one was dropped.

"The attributions for science, technology and research have been transferred to the Ministry of Education [while] the attributions for Information, Science and Technology (ICT) shall remain with the Ministry in the Office of the President in Charge of ICT,” reads a release signed by Premier Bernard Makuza.

The portfolio of the ICT Ministry remains vacant.
