President Paul Kagame, on Friday, January 10, received Ambassador Lazarous Kapambwe, a special envoy from President Hakainde Hichilema of Zambia.

"This afternoon at Urugwiro Village, President Kagame received Amb. Lazarous Kapambwe, who delivered a message as Special Envoy, on behalf of President Hakainde Hichilema,” read a post shared by the President’s Office via X.

Zambia and Rwanda are enjoying good relations, showcased most recently by exchange visits between the two states’ presidents.

In June 2023, Hichilema held a two-day state visit to Rwanda, which was aimed at strengthening bilateral ties between the two countries and partly to attend the inaugural Inclusive FinTech Forum in Kigali.

During the visit, the Zambian leader held talks with Kagame, before a state banquet took place in his honour.

Earlier in April 2022, Kagame had visited Zambia for two days as well.

Kagame’s visit featured the signing of several Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) in various sectors.

The two countries signed MoUs for Mutual Administrative Assistance between Rwanda Revenue Authority (RRA) and Zambia Revenue Authority (ZRA), as well as Cooperation on immigration Matters and in the field of Health.

Other MoUs that were signed included one aimed at Investment Promotion between Zambia Development Agency (ZDA) and Rwanda Development Board (RDB).

On Kagame’s last day of the visit, he, along with his host President Hichilema visited Mosi-oa-Tunya National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage site in Zambia.
