RWANDA will not field a team at this year’s Africa Junior Athletics Championships slated for July 30-August 2 in Mauritius. The local athletics federation (RAF) has attributed the country’s absence to failure to garner enough funds to send a team.

"We don’t have funds while efforts to secure funds from our primary financier (Ministry of Sports and Culture) have failed,” RAF’s Secretary General Apollinaire Munyangoga said

Meanwhile, Kenya has already named a 24-man team at the four-day championships. Kenya will be out to defend the title they won in Burkina Faso where they collected 21 medals. At least 41 countries are expected to grace the event.
