Long time ago, animals were able to talk, like people. One day, there was a hunter who went to the forest to hunt, with his dogs.

When the hunter and the dogs were deep in the forest the dogs told him that they had heard the lion saying that it was going to eat up the hunter. After hearing that, the hunter hurried up and left the forest.

When the hunter was in the middle of the forest, he killed a very big animal and he got a lot of meat. He tried to carry the meat back home, but because the meat was heavy he failed.

The dogs told him that they could help him carry the meat up to the main road where their master could look for more other people to help him take the meat to his mother’s in law.
The hunter reached the road and there he found two men whom the dogs had asked to help him carry his meat up to his mother in law’s home.

When they reached at his mother in law’s home, she greeted him with a lot of happiness, and then she went inside to bring him something to drink. When she was inside, the hunter heard her hens saying that they were going to eat the sorghum that was drying under the sunshine because the old woman had a left eye that could not see them. This amused the hunter so much that he started laughing so much.

When his mother in law came from the house, she saw him laughing, and asked him what she was laughing at. The hunter refused to tell her because she would not be happy with the hens.

She became so angry at the hunter because she thought he was disrespecting her and said she would never talk to him if he did not tell her what he was laughing at.

When she kept asking, the hunter finally told her what had happened. She forgave the hunter but said all animals would stop talking because they said things that bring division among people.This is how animals stopped talking.
