KIGALI - Just over one year at the helm of King Faisal Hospital, Dr Innocent Nyaruhirira has resigned his post as the hospital’s Chief Executive Officer.

Nyaruhirira joined the health facility as the Executive Chairman and was later appointed Chief Executive Officer.

When contacted to comment on his abrupt resignation, Nyaruhirira said, "I have no declaration to make to the press.”

Minister of Health Dr. Richard Sezibera said that Nyaruhirira’s resignation letter had reached his office and was accepted.

"He cited personal reasons for his resignation and we have already accepted it and appointed Dr. Juliet Mbabazi as the acting CEO,” Sezibera said.

Mbabazi said that she will take over Nyaruhirira’s office immediate after the handover which is scheduled for today.

"I will make some changes upon entering the office, and put more emphasis on improving service delivery in all departments of the hospital,” Mbabazi said.

Mbabazi has been the Chief Pharmacist at the hospital. She holds a doctorate in Pharmacy and worked in several hospitals in the US. She also worked as a consultant with the department of pharmacy at the National University of Rwanda before she was transferred to King Faisal Hospital in September 2007.

The hospital management recently announced it was going to increase it rates in the range of between 20-50 percent.

Nyaruhirira was at one time a State Minister in Charge of HIV/AIDS.
