MUHANGA - The director of the Adventist Institute of Sciences and Pedagogy (ISPAG) has appeared before the Nyamabuye upper court over allegations of embezzling Rwf 39million, meant for school fees for orphans of the genocide.
Gerald Urayeneza was arrested on Monday July 20, and appeared before court three days after.
He is accused of enlisting 21 ghost students in the institute and misappropriating funds belonging to the Fund for genocide survivors (FARG).
He denied the allegations and said that the students were registered and existed.
During the first hearing on July 23, prosecution requested that he (Urayeneza) should be temporarily remanded for one month pending further investigation into the case.
But Court president, John Byakatonda, said that there was no evidence that the students didn’t exist or had been stopped from attending school, ruling that the accused be temporarily released.
"Urayeneza will be temporarily released as investigation into the case proceed” Byakatonda said.
