A group of British MPs – the Commonwealth Parliamentary Association (CPA) UK chapter, is scheduled to visit the country on Sunday.
The Chamber of Deputies SG Anicet Habarurema confirmed to The New Times yesterday that the visit will last almost a week ending July 31.
"The purpose of their visit is to promote good relations between the two parliaments in particular, but they also want to see how Rwanda is improving in so many areas of social development and good governance,” Habarurema said.
"They will also visit the Auditor General and the Ombudsman and many others as they want to know more about Rwanda which has applied to join the Commonwealth.”
Rwanda’s commonwealth bid will be tabled before the Commonwealth Heads of State and Government meeting scheduled for Trinidad and Tobago in November.
Apart from meetings with their Rwandan counterparts, the lawmakers are also scheduled to meet several members of the executive including Ministers of Finance, Foreign Affairs, Gender and Local Government.
The delegation will meet Gacaca officials, Media High Council and the forum for political parties.
The group includes MPs from the ruling Labour party and Conservatives.
