MARINE will be without their influential point guard Aboubacar Barame in the upcoming Zone 5 Club Championships in Kampala, Uganda.
The former APR player has been ruled out after injuring a toe in one of the team’s build-up sessions.
"Barame recently injured a toe and is as disappointed as anyone else at the club. He is a top player and there is no doubt that his absence will be felt,” Marine coach Prospere Mihigo conceded before adding, "But we have to move on and stay focused at the task before us.”
Rwanda will field four clubs at the one-week event which spills off this Monday. Marine and CSK will compete in the men’s category while APR and National University of Rwanda (UNR) will represent the country in the women fray.
Other teams lined up for the event include Falcons, Warriors, D Mark, KCC, UCC, UCU Lady Canons, KCB, KPA, Eagle Wing, Bilpam Warriors, Somalia’s Heagem men and women teams and Tanzania’s Jeshi Stars among others.
Games will be staged at three venues; YMCA Wandegeya, Makerere University and Namboole stadium.
Sprite is the title sponsor of the event which also counts as a qualifier for this year’s Fiba-Africa Club Championships. The men’s edition will be staged in Kigali while the venue for the women competition is yet to be revealed.
