MTN has also promises to cut their tariff rates to more affordable levels after the government reduced the excise duty on airtime by 3 per cent.

So far Rwanda tax tariffs on airtime are the lowest in the East African Community. Amin Gafaranga, MTNS business development officer said tariff structures of different time bands are under construction and will be out as soon as there are ready.

"Extension of the time bands and discounts is also in place, and soon taking effect.”

He explained that peak time is from Monday to Friday (05:00-21:00).The peak time will be extended to discourage unnecessary calls.

Off peaks for week days begins at 21:00-23:00. Saturday has no peak but rather off-peak from 05:00-23:00. Sundays and public holidays off peaks begin at 07:00-21:00.

However, discounts will begin from 23:00 on all days ending at 05:00 on Monday to Saturday and 07:00 for Sundays. But these time band exclude the newly launched MTN Gonga.
