RRA donates to residents

NORTHERN PROVINCE GICUMBI - Rwanda Revenue Authority (RRA) on Wednesday handed out an assortment of donations to residents of Cyumba sector within Gicumbi District.

NORTHERN PROVINCE

GICUMBI - Rwanda Revenue Authority (RRA) on Wednesday handed out an assortment of donations to residents of Cyumba sector within Gicumbi District.

RRA  officials  handed over more than  13 water sources  and related items and  10 Friesian Cows to residents of Byumba and Kageyo Sectors, of Gicumbi District.

The ceremony to launch provision of clean water and donation of Friesian Cows was presided over by RRA Commissioner General Mary Baine.

Addressing residents and District leaders, at Gicumbi stadium the RRA Commissioner General said provision of clean water and donation of Cows to residents is a sign of close cooperation between RRA and Gicumbi District tax payers. She hailed small scale traders for their timely payment of taxes. 

"RRA is now able to provide clean water and donate cows to residents in appreciation of your timely payment of taxes”, said Baine. She further said the donated Cows worth over Rwf 5 million, was made possible by the timely gestures by the residents.

"Consequently the National Taxpayers’ Day shall take place in Gicumbi District on 31st July this year”, added Baine.

The Governor of Northern Province Aime Bosenibamwe said Northern Province is committed to working closely with RRA to ensure the efficient collection of taxes.

"Taxes should be collected professionally and on time, because they are the backbone of our development strategies”, said Bosenibamwe. He further cautioned small scale traders to desist from the bad habit of smuggling goods across borders with neighboring countries, saying this cripples the tax collection exercise.

Governor Bosenibamwe further called upon residents to form cooperative societies, in order to engage in profitable income generating ventures and increase tax collection base. "Our objective is to support RRA in collecting taxes for development”, he added.

Also present during the ceremony was Mayor Bonane Nyangezi, Rwanda Defense Forces (RDF) 408 Brigade Commander Brig.

General Eric Murokore and Gicumbi District Police commander Superintendent Albert Ndatsikira among others.
