SOUTHERN PROVINCE

RUHANGO—The slogan for Southern Province has changed from ‘fighting poverty by eliminating hunger’ to ‘work hard towards development.’

This was a decision made recently during a meeting held in Ruhango by various top leaders in the province. Governor Fidel Ndayisaba of Southern Province chaired the meeting. Which was also marked by hot debates on the direction the province should take in eliminating the existing poverty.

The participants said that the motto aimed to encourage residents of the province that it was time to change mentalities and eliminate stereotypes of poverty and hunger.

"We (leaders) would like the province to implement strategies of development and the slogan is a reminder of the areas where each resident should contribute to poverty eradication which has been tagged on the province,” Ndayisaba added.

The motion was highly approved and strategies to disseminate the slogan among residents have since started in all public gatherings and official meetings throughout the province.
