Rwanda Cricket Association (RCA) has turned to the experienced Ugandan coach William Kamanyi to handle the senior national team ahead of October’s ICC/ACA World Cricket League Div 3 tournament in Malawi.
Rwanda, seeded second in the tournament, will come against familiar opponents in Sierra Leone (tournament favourites), Lesotho, Morocco, Gambia and Malawi.
RCA believe Kamanyi, who handled the team during their maiden tour in 2004, brings a lot to the side.
"His CV speaks for itself. He has done and seen it all and we are honoured to have him here,” RCA’s administrative officer, Robert Mugisha, said.
Mugisha is also optimistic that this could be the year for Rwanda to hit her peak.
"We are seeded second to Sierra Leone in the tournament and honestly, when we look at how we have been playing in past tournaments, there isn’t much difference between the two sides,” he said.
Kamanyi is already looking forward to the challenge as he told Times Sport. "I think this time round, we have enough time to prepare and make a strong challenge in Malawi.”
For starters, Kamanyi is working with a 22-man provisional team on a daily basis.
