Dear Editor,
I am an ardent reader of the New Times daily online. First of all, I would like to congratulate the paper on the exclusive news stories. I also thank you for the regional news that you cover.
However, just to be a little bit critical, as a Kenyan living in Rwanda, there is a lot more that has been happening in Kenya that should be made known to people to everyone living here in Rwanda.
Since the chairman of the panel of African eminent persons Koffi Annan handed over the much dreaded envelope containing names of suspected Kenyan politicians who allegedly were involved in sponsoring the 2007 post elections violence, a lot has come up on whether it is fair to carry out the trials locally or at the Hague.
Kenya’s Parliament has failed to establish a special tribunal to try post election masterminds and thus there is no other way out but to face truth and justice. I am happy to have witnessed the on-going peace and reconciliation process in Rwanda.
The Gacaca courts have brought about justice to many Rwandans who were victims of the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi. This is what the internally displaced Kenyans are looking for.
Kenyans in general are hoping that the International Criminal Court will eliminate any further plans of violence and pave the way for a new generation of leaders as the present day political dinosaurs face justice.
As the paper has closely followed gacaca proceedings since its inception, we Kenyans who are living and working here will appreciate a page or two which highlight on the events in our country.
Thank you
