Kagame tells new leaders to treat sports as a talent-based business

President Paul Kagame on Monday, December 23, told new cabinet members to find ways to generate resources from sports, which he described as a business based on talent.

He made the observation while officiating at the swearing-in ceremony of newly appointed Minister of Sports, Nelly Mukazayire; Minister of State in the Ministry of Sports, Rwego Ngarambe; and the Minister of State in Charge of the National Treasury in the Ministry of Finance and Economic Planning, Godfrey Kabera.

Among many benefits of sports to people, Kagame observed, there should also be making money.

"Currently, sports is a business based on talent, among Rwandans, or others [people] elsewhere. There is a way that talent is traded and generates resources. That is our goal,” he said.

According to the President, that is why there are some infrastructure that the country set up to facilitate the sports sector.

Currently, Rwanda has a 45,500-seat capacity Amahoro Stadium (after its renovation completed mid-2024 to increase its previous 25,000-seat capacity), and a 10,000-seat capacity BK Arena, among other sports facilities.
