SKOL Brewery joined hands with Mageragere residents in a tree planting initiative under the ongoing One Shot One Tree campaign.
The event, held at Butamwa Primary School and College Butamwa, brought together a diverse group of participants, including SKOL Brewery General Manager Eric Gilson, Nyarugenge District Deputy Executive Administrator, Genevieve Uwamahoro, ORION Basketball Club President James Mutabazi, basketball fans, local leaders, students, and members of the community.
The initiative focused on planting various tree species, including fruit trees, which aim to tackle multiple community challenges such as malnutrition while promoting environmental conservation. In addition to the trees planted during the event, additional saplings were distributed to residents for planting around their homes, extending the campaign’s impact.
Speaking at the event, Uwamahoro commended the collective efforts and emphasized the importance of such community-driven initiatives in fostering a greener future and the community well-being.
Gilson highlighted the brewery’s commitment to environmental conservation and community development, stating, "SKOL Brewery Ltd is dedicated to supporting initiatives that promote environmental conservation and community well-being. This is why we have actively engaged in the One Shot One Tree campaign, aiming to plant as many trees as possible with the support of our stakeholders."
As part of the campaign, SKOL Brewery Ltd pledged to plant 6,000 trees, with 50 trees planted for every goal scored by Rayon Sports Women FC. This innovative approach not only ties environmental conservation to sports but also amplifies community engagement.
James Mutabazi, the President of ORION Basketball Club, the initiators of the One Shot One Tree campaign, expressed his gratitude for the partnership and underscored the campaign’s vision of inspiring sustainable practices through sports and community collaboration.
The students and local community expressed gratitude for being selected as a site for the tree planting initiative, recognizing the long-term benefits these trees will provide in terms of nutrition, shade, and environmental restoration.
This tree planting event underscores the power of partnerships and community engagement in building a sustainable future, aligning with SKOL Brewery’s broader mission to contribute to the country development.
