AS Kigali’s title hopes were left in shambles after dropping two crucial points against weaklings La Charite yesterday afternoon. The title contenders were shockingly held to a 1-1 draw at Muhanga.
The Kigali City Council side went ahead on the 35th minute after a sweet strike from Anne Marie Umutoni but La Charite kept pressing and got their reward in the second half when Claudette Uwamariya equalized to send the home crowd wild.
After the game, AS Kigali Coach Grace Nyiranumuntu was quick to blame the team for taking La Charite lightly. "We have not only paid for being over confident but also made our task harder because it is now going to be very difficult to snatch the title away from APR,” a remorseful Nyiranumuntu conceded.
The draw means that reigning champion and table leaders APR on 36 points is still a point clear of AS Kigali although the latter have a game in hand.
