MILITARY are now within touching distance of top flight football after Saturday’s resounding 3-1 victory over Etincelles in the first leg of the second division playoffs.
Despite securing a playoff berth on the final day of the regular season, Military put all that behind them to shock Group B leaders at Kicukiro’s artificial turf.

Pablo Ndahayo put the army side ahead after 15 minutes before a brace from winger Jean Marie Ntagwabira.
Military now head into Saturday’s return leg at Ubworoherane stadium in the driving seat.

The army side can now afford to draw or even lose by one goal and still progress to the first division.In the other playoff tie, Musanze and Muhanga could only settle for a 1-1 draw.

Patrick Izabayo scored what could be a crucial away goal for Musanze after Muhammed Nonde had given the hosts (Muhanga) an early lead.

Izabayo’s goal revitalized Musanze and club coach Rafiki Nshiyimana now believes that the team is in a good position heading into the return leg.

"I think we have what it takes to finish off the job next Saturday,” he said."All we ask is for our fans to continue backing the team and create an intimidating atmosphere for Muhanga.”
