Three district officials arrested over irregularities in procurement processes

Three senior officials from the districts of Rusizi, Nyamasheke, and Kirehe have been detained on suspicion of illegally awarding tenders, according to Rwanda Investigation Bureau (RIB).

RIB confirmed on December 21, the arrests of Mbyayingabo Athanase, Executive Secretary of Rusizi District; Nsabimana Cyprien, Executive Secretary of Kirehe District; and Rutikanga Joseph, General Manager in Charge of Public Works for Nyamasheke District.

"They are currently detained at RIB stations in Kicukiro, Remera, and Ruharambuga, respectively, while their cases are being processed for prosecution," RIB said in a post on X.

The arrests followed an investigation into alleged irregularities in awarding contracts for market construction in different districts across the country.

In its statement, RIB emphasized that the investigation is ongoing, urging public officials involved in the tendering processes to strictly adhere to legal procedures.
