Mont Jali Rotary Club Friday marked 10 years since it started its charity operations in Kigali. As part of its ongoing projects, it has devoted its efforts to fighting infant mortality.
Outgoing president of the Club, Jean Paul Sebera, commended all the members for their sacrifice and commitment to the club’s activities.
"We call for the same unreserved commitment especially for the fight against infant mortality project we have launched in Bugesera,” Sebera said.
Health Minister, Richard Sezibera, who was the chief guest, lauded Mont Jali for the continued improvement of people’s lives especially in the health sector.
He pledged the ministry’s support to the health activities the club is involved in."I am glad Bugesera was chosen first in the fight against infant mortality.
Since the Ministry is also involved in this fight, we shall work hand in hand to see that the mortality rates decline”.
Sezibera also revealed that the ministry has started auditing both maternal deaths and infant mortality cases from the community level so that a comprehensive health strategy can be devised to address the problem.
Bugesera stands out as the district mostly hit by the highest infant mortality rates with 174 deaths per 1000 births.
In the past 10 years Mont Jali has released over USD 1 million in charity donations and projects intended to raise people’s livelihoods.
