RWANDA risk being overlooked for this year’s World Boxing Championship in Milan, Italy after continuous delays in naming their representative at the international event.

The local boxing federation was supposed to have forward in the most suited pugilist for the championship to AIBA, the world boxing body two days ago but according to reports, the selection has been stalled by the local federation’s technical director Gashugi Kananura who is down with fever.

"We have been postponing the selection process because our technical director is sick but we hope to name the boxer before the end of this week,” the federation’s president Antoine Semukanya reasoned.

The boxers contesting for the lone slot include Jean Claude Gatorano- welter weight (69kg), Pascal Sibomana-light weight (60kg) and David Nsabimana-feather weight (57kg).

Technically, AIBA has offered to fund the pugilist’s air ticket and accommodation during the vent scheduled to run from August 29-September 13.

Rwanda missed out on the last world boxing championship in Chicago due to lack of funding.
