HAMIS Kitagenda is eager to renew his contract with 2009 Cecafa/Kagame Cup Champions Atraco.

The Ugandan international striker revealed to Times Sport that his contract with the Rwandan league champions expires this month and that he is already planning to hold talks with the club to prolong his stay.

Kitagenda, who finished the Kagame Cup campaign as Atraco’s top scorer with four goals said, "I have no problem pledging my future to Atraco. If they need me, I will renew my contract.”

Kitagenda joined Atraco in 2008 from Kampala City Council (KCC FC) after impressing with Uganda Cranes in the 2007 Challenge Cup which was staged in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania.

It is also reported that Atraco’s goal custodian Jean Luc Ndayishimiye, striker Peter Kagabo and defender Charles Kawuma are also running out of contract with the taxi-men club.

"We are aware that many of our players are running out of contract but we intend to look into the issue very soon,” Atraco vice president Issa Ngezi said.

In the Kagame Cup final between Atraco and tournament favorites El Merreikh, Kitagenda made the difference in the 15th minute when he pounced on a superb Andre Lomami cross to score the winner.

Kitagenda said that his goal against El Merreikh was out of the strong belief he had in himself and the team.

"After hitting the post in the opening minutes, I knew that I would hit the target,” he said.  Atraco bagged $50,000 (Rwf28m) for the victory. El Merreikh were consoled with $30,000 (Rwf16.9m). Third placed DR Congo’s TP Mazembe settled for (Rwf11m).

TP Mazembe’s Kabangu Mulota, with 7 goals won the top scorer’s accolade worth $1,000 (Rwf 0.56m) while his teammate and captain Tresor Mputu took home a $2,000 (Rwf 11.3m) reward after being voted best player of Cecafa 2009.
