First semifinal
APR v Mukura
After winning the 2009 Cecafa/Kagame club championship on Sunday, Atraco now turn their focus on the local scene where they face Police in the MTN Peace Cup quarter-final second leg this afternoon at Nyamirambo stadium.
Speaking to Times Sport in brief interview yesterday, Atraco coach Sam Timbe was still skeptical about the readiness of his side arguing that the team deserved more time to recuperate from the demanding Kagame Cup which was played over two weeks.
"It’s crystal clear that the players have not had enough rest but we shall try and do our best,” Timbe said.
The return leg was due to be played on Thursday (yesterday) but was pushed to today by the local football governing body (Ferwafa) after an official request from Atraco.
The league champions head into today’s tie with a slim 1-0 advantage from the first leg.
The winner of this particular quarterfinal clash will face Rayon Sport in the semifinal on Monday while reigning champions APR faces Mukura tomorrow (Saturday) in the other semi-final first leg tie.
APR and Rayon Sport made light work of their opponents over the weekend to storm the semi-finals of this year’s MTN Peace Cup.
APR ran amok after a stimulating 7-0 victory over paperweights Amagaju while eight-time champions Rayon were also comfortable winners after their 3-0 victory over Electrogaz in their respective quarter-final second legs.
Atraco were crowned regional champions on Sunday after a stunning 1-0 win over hosts and tournament favourites El Merreikh in the final played in front a capacity crowd at Red Castle stadium.
