In the event to mark the 10th anniversary of the Joy of Jazz, different international musicians including Rwanda’s Catherine Somi, have been hired to perform.
The event will take place in Newtown, Johannesburg August 27-29.
Somi will perform alongside South Africa’s Jonas Gwangwa, Sterling EQ, 2009 Standard Bank Young Artist Award winner for jazz Kesivan Naidoo, as well as Nigeria’s All Stars Kúnlé Ayo.
Sweden’s Grammy-Award winner Andreas Vollenweider, world renowned trumpeter Ingrid Jensen, American’s singer Phil Perry, Cuba’s Gooding Sr, and Spain’s Sumrra.
Somi’s hit album "Red Soil In My Eyes”, is a soulful celebration of her Rwandese and Ugandan heritage that fantastically speaks of returning Home.
Standard Bank’s Clement Motale commented that the 10-year milestone of 2009 marks a very special celebration for Standard Bank.
"Our commitment to bringing world-class jazz to Johannesburg audiences, and our involvement as sponsor in this last decade, has helped create one of South Africa’s seminal music events,” Motale said.
