NYAGATARE- Part of the Umutara Polytechnic University staff on Wednesday evening pledged Rwf 460,500 to the one dollar campaign.
Presided over by the university vice rector in charge of academic affairs, Dr. Eugene Ndabaga, the pledge meeting attracted about 30 people out of the entire 103 University staff.
However, according to the Campus’s public relations officer, Frank Namara, the pledge meeting was not fully attended due to many lecturers who were busy lecturing evening classes.
‘Only 30 members of our staff have donated Rwf 460,500 this evening but this does not mean it is end of the road for the campaign in this campus.
It’s a continuous process and we target to go beyond Rwf 2 million from this University,’ he said in an interview shortly after the meeting.
He added that even students have accepted to contribute to the campaign.
"Many students have also started pledging. They too have, despite financial constraints, the heart of helping genocide survivors and orphans”, he said.
According to Dr. Ndabaga, the money collected from the staff will be deducted from their August salary.
A source from the Eastern Province headquarters told The New Times that the Province targets to collect Rwf 40million for this campaign.
