GASABO - A United Arab Emirates (UAE) delegation is in the country to seek investment opportunities mainly in the energy sector.

The delegation led by Ambassador Essa Abdulla Al Basha Al Noaimi, Director of African Affairs in the UAE Foreign Ministry, met with the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Eugene Munyakayanza and other Minaffet officials at the latter’s office to talk about investment opportunities in the country.

Al Noaimi said that the sectors they were eyeing for possible investment are energy and infrastructure development.

The delegation that was composed of people from top companies including petroleum and energy executives also met with Energy State Minister Eng. Albert Butare.

"We have come to look into the possibilities for investing in Rwanda and our main areas of interest are in petroleum, energy, infrastructure as well as humanitarian affairs,” Ambassador Al Noaimi told The New Times.  

He revealed that they were partly attracted to the country because of her peace and security.

Minister Butare later revealed that three specific areas of petroleum, renewable energy and support of the country’s energy roll-out programme, were in "the package” agreed to be pursued later on with the UAE visitors.

Apart from working to invest in hydro electricity, Rwanda has discovered substantial methane gas volumes in Lake Kivu and is currently nearing final exploratory stages of oil prospects.

The country is also exploring wind and geothermal energy potentials.
