Rwanda’s U-17 national team will fly out to Germany this afternoon for a two-week training camp ahead of next month’s Cecafa Youth Championship in Sudan.
The junior wasps, departing aboard Ethiopian Airways will camp at the Enden Koben football academy in Rhenanie Palatinat Province. During their two-week stay, they will play friendlies with Koblenz FC’s U-19 side and the junior side of Scottish giants Queens Park Rangers.
After the two-week stint, the team will return on August 2 before connecting to Sudan for the championship.
Rwanda should brace herself for tough teams in Sudan especially after Cecafa’s decision to invite the likes of Nigeria.
The two-time U-17 world champions were invited to spice up the event that is expected to attract over ten countries.
Although Khartoum and Juba have been highlighted as the host cities for the event, Cecafa Secretary General, Nicholas Musonye has underlined that there is a possibility of also including the Sudanese city of Kessala.
It will be the first time a major international sports event is staged in the semi-autonomous Sudanese region ravaged by war for decades.
The Unity Government of Sudan stands out as the event’s title sponsors after splashing US $400,000 (Rwf 22.6m).
