NYAMASHEKE-Genocide survivor students in Nyamasheke district under their umbrella organization (AERG) last  monday paid tribute to the genocide victims who were killed and dumped in Lake Kivu in Nyamasheke district during the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsis.

The ceremony was organized by an association of genocide survivor students from Nyamasheke district who are studying at the National University of Rwanda(NUR).

The students who attended the function are from various secondary schools in Nyamasheke district and NUR.

Esperance Mukamana, a student at NUR who presided over the function said that  the genocide victims are great a great loss to the nation.

"Though we can’t even recover the remains  of many of our beloved sisters, brothers, parents and relatives who were killed and dumped in this Lake Kivu during the 1994 Rwandan genocide against the Tutsis, we should really observe the pain and the loss that we made and that is why we are here today to pay tribute to them” said Mukamana.

She also asked the students to always desist from genocide ideology and its related crimes.

Other students who spoke at the ceremony castigated the former regime for promoting divisionism and hatred among Rwandans that led to the 1994 Genocide.
