An official in charge of environment management in Rutsiro District has been detained over corruption allegations, according to the Rwanda Investigation Bureau (RIB).
RIB confirmed the arrest of Innocent Kamayirese on Friday, December 13, saying he was is being investigated for taking bribes from various people to grant them permits for quarrying and sand mining.

According to RIB, Kamayirese’s detention followed days of investigation into the issuance of permits for the extraction of sand and stones for construction in Rutsiro District.
He is now detained at the Gihango RIB Station while his file is being processed to be handed over to the Prosecution.
RIB indicated that Kamayirese was reported by people who refused to give him bribes.
