You cannot fight corruption when you are corrupt

Dear Editor,

I have been following reports where judges are working with the police to catch bribery suspects. In my opinion, a judge should be there to deter crime.

The judge who is being bribed should instead offer counsel to the culprit; educate him that bribery is a vice that negatively affects the running of institutions.

By offering such advice, the act of bribery will can be avoided. However, if the judges keep calling the police, the police will then call the media and the culprit will have to hire a lawyer, this comes with the court appearances and even jail terms.

All this takes up time and money which can be saved if the judge simply warns the attempting culprit.

Especially if one puts into consideration that our prisons are full and the upkeep of prisoners drains the country’s coffers.
