Gasogi United centre back Emery Bayisenge made a remarkable return to Amavubi squad after three years and is part of Amavubi’s 31-man squad that coaches Jimmy Mulisa and Yves Rwasamanzi summoned for the upcoming African Nations Championship (CHAN) qualifiers against South Sudan.

Rwanda will visit "Bright Stars" for the first leg at Juba Stadium on December 22 before the pair face off in the second leg at Amahoro Stadium on December 28.

Bayisenge last played for Amavubi on January 31, 2021 in a CHAN quarterfinals game against Guinea. Another fresh face in the squad is Bugesera striker Yannick Bizimana who last featured for Amavubi in March 2023.

The two were handed callus back to the national team after impressive form at their respective clubs in the domestic league so far this season.

The squad comprises three goalkeepers, nine defenders, seven midfielders and 12 attackers. APR lead the pack with 10 players, followed by league leaders Rayon who have six. AS Kigali have 4 players in the squad, Police and Gasogi have 2 apiece while the likes of Gorilla FC, Marines FC, Bugesera FC, Rutsiro FC and second tier club Etoile de l'Est are also represented.

Notable names in the squad includes skipper Kevin Muhire, left back Claude Niyomugabo and winger Gilbert Mugisha among others.

Mulisa and Yves Rwasamanzi will handle the team in the absence of head coach Torsten Spittler who is traveling to his native Germany for holidays.

While Rutsiro striker Yves Habimana was handed a debut call up weeks after scored a hat trick against Mukura Victory Sports the league, Police FC goalkeeper Patience Niyongira, AS Kigali duo of Dieudonne Ndayishimiye and Osee Iyabivuze as well as Vision FC striker Onesme Twizerimana well all snubbed.

Rwanda qualified for the second round of the CHAN qualifiers after eliminating Djibouti with a 3-1 victory on aggregate in the first round while South Sudan also saw off Kenya by the same margin.
