CHALLENGERS rewrote history after recording a new highest innings score during Sunday’s Sulfo league game against reigning champions Young Tigers at Kicukiro.

The Indian-dominated side, led by national team captain Srinath Vardhineni piled 259 thanks to top knocks from Praveen Kumar (78) and Sairum Gopalani (73). The score surpassed KCC’s 248 back in 2005.

Kumar’s 78 meant that Challengers scooped a bonus batting point.
In reply, Young Tigers fell 27 runs short.

Rwanda’s national team opening batsman Eric Dusingizimana looked lively on the crease as he plundered 68 runs but ran out of batting partners. Eric Dusabemungu, who was playing his first game in over two months, also chipped in 40 runs for the youngsters.

Challengers with five points after Sunday’s win are now joint table leaders with Kigali Cricket Club (KCC) who whitewashed Right Guards in their opening game two weeks ago.
