League Opener

SC Villa v Express FC

Omar Hitimana lost his first test with his new Ugandan club Express Fc as they fell 0-1 to URA in the Super Cup played on Sunday at Nakivubo stadium.

The Rwanda U-20 national team skipper is among the host of new players the Ugandan giants have signed in close season ahead of the country’s league season that starts this Friday.

The center half was impressive on his competitive debut as he dealt well with some of his former teammates at Atraco, Martin Muwanga and Ismail Kigozi who joined URA after being released by the Rwandan club.

Despite his solid defensive partnership with former APR defender Francis Gonzaga, the Ugandan league champions prevailed in the season curtain-raiser and got their reward through Sadat Kakaire’s seventh minute strike.

Express opens the Ugandan Super League against bitter rivals SC Villa on Friday at Mandela national stadium Namboole.

Express tactician Polly Ouma hailed the former Atraco central defender describing him as a quality defender whom he hope to rely on for the coming season as the club fights for success locally and on the continent.

Like Rayon Sports for Rwanda, Express will be Uganda’s representative in the Caf Confederations Cup while URA, like APR will be in MTN Champions League.

However, Express’s other new signing from Atraco; Joseph Kabagambe missed Saturday’s game but is expected to be in the squad for Friday’s league opener.

Kabagambe, who is reported to have recently turned down an extended two year contract with Atraco, penned a two-year deal with the Red Eagles last week after tending in his ICT from his Rwandan Club.
