MTN Peace Cup
Quarter-finals
Electrogaz     0-3      Rayon
APR                 7-0     Amagaju
SC Kiyovu      2-1    Mukura

APR and Rayon Sport made light work of their opponents over the weekend to storm the semi-finals of this year’s MTN Peace Cup.

APR ran amok after a stimulating 7-0 victory over paperweights Amagaju while eight-time champions Rayon were also comfortable winners after their 3-0 victory over Electrogaz in their respective quarter-final second legs.

Theoneste Muhayimana, Aimable Rucogoza and Albert Nyumbayire were on target for the blues who are chasing for their first title since 2004.

The victory, coupled with their 4-0 first leg win back in April made sure that Rayon progressed with a compelling 7-0 goal.

Rayon, managed by Jean Baptista Kayiranga will now play the winner between Atraco and Police.

The Atraco-Police game, initially scheduled for last Saturday was postponed since Atraco were still in Khartoum, Sudan where they were competing in the 2009 Cecafa/ Kagame Cup which climaxed on Sunday.

Atraco were crowned champions after their stunning 1-0 win over hosts and tournament favourites El Merreikh in the final played in front a capacity crowd at Red Castle stadium.

In the APR-Amagaju tie played at Nyamirambo stadium, Bokota Labama and Kabange Twite scored a brace while Haruna Niyonzima, Jean Baptista Mugiraneza and Emmanuel Sebanani also got on the score sheet for the military side.

It was a totally different performance from the military side who had been frustrated in the first leg where they had to fight hard for their 1-0 victory.

APR will now face Mukura in the semi-final. Although the Huye-based side lost their second leg 1-2 against SC Kiyovu, they still progressed to the semis on goal aggregates 3-2. Mukura had won the first leg 2-0.

Rwf23 million has been staked for the winners courtesy of MTN Rwanda. The winner will pocket Rwf10million while the second, third and fourth teams will settle for Rwf7million, Rwf4million and Rwf2.5million.

APR won last year’s Cup after defeating Atraco in the final.
